Brown Drake

The Brown Drake is a classic dry fly designed to imitate the adult Brown Drake mayfly, a favorite food source for trout during its hatch. It features a robust body, typically tied with brown dubbing, and is finished with a pair of large wings, often made from natural materials like deer hair or feather, that help the fly stay visible and afloat. The fly's lifelike appearance and the prominent hackle give it great buoyancy, making it ideal for fishing during the peak of the Brown Drake hatch. This pattern is most effective in the late spring and early summer when Brown Drakes are active on the water's surface.
